A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

Hello and Welcome to Niflheim, warrior.

"Hermodr" is an old-school fast-paced first-person shooter. No reloading, no drama, no other modern trends. Just you, your gun, and your enemies. A lot of them.
The game is implemented in the rogue-like mechanics, the levels and weapons are generated on the fly. Your task is to move forward, through the foes, deeper and deeper into the underworld. If you die, you just start all over again.
Oh, yes. Forgot about the story. This stuff is based on the Nordic folklore. You find yourself at the top level of Niflheim, and desperately want to talk to Hel. This is all you need to know about it.

The game in development, so it lacks of content and possibly have some stability issues. Updates will be available on this page. When getting a message about an update being available, simply re-download the game from this page.

At the moment only first chapter available - 2 levels and chapter boss. And arena mode of course with one level.

WASD - movement
Mouse - view
F - melee
E - action
RMB - mini map
LMB - fire

is this game ever coming out will buy no cap

I usually wouldn't do this -- would want to be seen as spamming -- but I started watching this years ago and it seems the dev is MIA and looks like this is never coming out.  If this is the kind of thing you like you should look at my game "Caverns of Evil" since I plan on releasing a completed game within the year (and probably a lot sooner).

it is listed on steam as tdb release date

Man after seeing the comments for over a year ago I sure as hell hope this isn't abbandoned because it has some serious potential I loved the graphics and the semi fast paced gameplay this thing is everything I ever wanted a game to be and would like to see this finished.

On the second level when you go through the red portal and enter the room with spikes, the door behind you in that room has no collusion.

Thanks  developer for attention to my problem. Game is awesome, but unfortunatly i can  express my thaks only with words..

Have the same problem with gray sreen and i can't open a link with fix files, what i should do?

P.S Video and sreens are awesome!

Hi. I've patched the itch.io build, so the fix from that link doesn't needed anymore. Can you provide me native.txt, that can be found in net.bin folder? Possibly there is another bug.

Hi. I have some problems with file copy, but I can copy text:

Fragment shader error: ERROR: 0:7: 'location qualifer' : the "location" qualifier cannot be used when a "binding" qualifier is also provided. Use "offset" instead

That's pretty strange. Are u sure, that downloaded the game from itch.io? BTW, I've uploaded the patch again.

Thakn you very much for your attention and diligence, but it still only gray screen. :( Maybe i do something wrong, but it realy doesn't made any changes.

P.S If it really strange, we can contact in Discord(sosokbomza#8165), naturally if you have time for this.

Can't find you in discord (probably name is case-senitive). Can you join this channel?

Where is the .exe file I couldn't find it anywhere in the game files?

net.bin folder, NetLauncher.exe

Plz make For Mac really love these types of games with the retro fps look i saw the trailer and i know that i would love this game Cheers :)

Mac is in mind, but I does not have any Mac yet for building and testing purposes.

gray screen.....

Try this patch from older reply

Here is a little patch. You need to unzip it in game folder. There will appear Assets folder. It's must be in same folder, where is Assets.epk. I can't just update itch.io builds because currently game is in broken compatibility state. Sorry for that.

Sounds awesome, pics look awesome -- like the kind of game I would like to have made eventually if no one beat me to it.  Unfortunately I have a problem -- it doesn't like my Linux version (which isn't that old, 2-3 years maybe).  I get:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.21' not found (required by ./Launcher)   :(

That's mean, that your libstdc++ package is outdated. Game was built in Ubuntu 14.04, as i remember.

Thanks for the info, I have a lot of broken stuff -- I probably need to go ahead a fix it.

This game is fucking Metal!! love it

When I booted up this game it was a blank grey window. I could hear music playing but couldn't do anything. Anybody have a fix?

Probably your video card does not support some tech. Which videocard do you have? Try to update video drivers.  If no change, then can you provide me log.txt and native.txt? These files can be found in bin or net.bin folder. I'll check this out.

(1 edit)

I have an 'Intel HD Graphics 5500'. Here's a copy of the log files.

I'll try to investigate, but your videocard has strange behavior.

Thanks for the fix. The game is really cool so far.

I found the secret Glitch level! The game is pretty difficult, but I'm excited to play more Hermodr.

Hi! I'm getting this error when I try to run this game:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

at Engine.AudioEngine.Volume(VolumeGroup group Single value)
at Game.App.Run()
at NetLauncher.Program.Main(String[] args)

What should I do?

Are you using itch.io app? To fix that error you must install OpenAL from redist folder. Or you can download it here.

Thanks! It works perfectly well now :)

How do I buy the game here? I don't see any buy button...

You can't buy the game until it's released at least in early access.

I thought you said it will be cheaper here, at Itch.io than Steam.

Yes. The game will be cheaper.

i re-download the game or i need modify my playonlinux virtual drive ?

have you see my old post for translat your game ?

Just redownload.

And yes, I've seen your proposal. Development is not finished yet, but I saved your contacts. When it's ready to go I'll contact you and if the proposal will be still relevant, then we can do some work.

Good demo but only one lvl ?  (lubuntu 17.04x64)

3 levels. Ancient Crypt - 2 levels and boss. Does the game crashing on exit from the first level?

yeap, crash after 1lvl or if i "open door" in glitsh lvl

Fixed. Was bug in mono5, downgraded to mono4.

Failed to install because I already have Visual Studio installed - why does it need this?

If you've already installed Visual Studio runtime, than you can just run NetLauncher.exe

Shoulnd't we be able to use the itch.io launcher? I'm sure there is a way around it since itch.io is pushing this method now?

Sorry. Thanks for bugreport. Fixed now.

I've played a little, and it's fun, it's well worth the price !

Few issues :

- It seems i can't rebind weapon selection (12345), and it's an issue for non standard english keyboards. Adding rebind would be nice. Not sure if i even had more than my starter gun and hammer.

- Level Up, went fr grenade. Don't know where they are or how to use them.

- FOV is tiny and painful, would be great is it was possible to do something about it.

- first time, i fourd a red key, then a door needed the red key. Great ! Action : crash. Oops.

- I returned to start over, find a boss (a giant with 2 rocket launchers), killed him. There was a teleport red circle going to an empty cell. What was it for ?

- Then i found an Exit Great ! Action to activate it : crash. Oops.

I'm playing on Linux Mint.

Congratz with your little game, it's fun so far.

Hi. Can you provide me a logs? They can be found in bin folder. ./native.txt and ./log.txt. I'll check this out. I've tested it on Ubuntu 16.04LTS, and it was working well.  Weapons can be switched by mouse wheel too, but I see your point. Rebind of weapon selector buttons will be added a bit later.

Every single time i try to use a door, or "use" the exit, crash. So i've never reached anything beyond the first floor so far.

Log : https://pastebin.com/raw/gVSHTJZG

and i don't have a native.txt or other .txt file.

I love this game! I ended up doing a playthrough for it on my channel, including how to set it up when you first download it. I'll post it below.

The game is smooth and I didn't see any gamebreaking glitches and there is quite a bit of diversity between enemies. I'm honestly really surprised only one person made this. You did a really good job Regday_NULL.

The game has a ton of potential and I can't wait to see where it goes! (One last edit: I found a minor wall boundary glitch on my third playthrough video, it's not gamebreaking but it's the only glitch I really found)

I don't have a lot of subscribers right now because I only started a week ago, but as future updates come out I'll do more gameplay videos!

Thanks, man. No Hermodr it's not russian word. It's scandinavian. Anglicized as Hermod. Hermodr the Brave, Son of Odin, yada yada yada.

I was excited until I read "rogue-like". Jeez. How is that not a "modern" system? It would be nice to have games like this one with actual level design and actual levels.

Actual level design with actual levels are barely possible for one-man-studio. But another attributes are carefully implemented. Various behavior of the enemies, health, armor and ammo management, weapons, which are useful in each playstyle and situation.

Not sure where the conception comes from that rogue-like gameplay is modern. Yes, is has become popular to add rogue-like gameplay elements to your game, probably starting with Spelunky, but they are called rogue-likes because they share gameplay elements with Rogue, which is an RPG from the 80s. Rogue-like games like Hack or NetHack have been around for more than three decades.

Plus, just because levels are procedurally generated doesn't mean that the creator hasn't put a lot of work into the algorithm that generates those levels.
